Supartz is a joint fluid therapy that is a non-surgical, non-pharmacological pain relieving treatment for osteoarthritis. Supartz is made of a highly purified sodium hyaluronate (HA). HA is a natural chemical that is found in the joint tissues and fluid surrounding the joint. The body's own HA acts like a lubricant and shock absorber. With osteoarthritis this fluids ability to protect and lubricate is reduced. Joint therapy is recommended as appropriate treatment of osteoarthritis when simple exercise and over-the-counter painkillers are no longer adequate. One injection is administered once a week for a series of 5 weeks.
